Soybean Prices Surge on Strong Demand from China

Key takeaways

  • Soybean prices have increased by over 5 cents in the past few days
  • Private export sale of 136,000 MT of soybeans to China announced on Friday
  • Old crop soybean sales are at 101% of the USDA forecast

Soybeans have seen significant gains in the past few days, with futures increasing by 5 ½ to 11 ¾ cents across most contracts on Friday and continuing higher on Monday morning. The national average Cash Bean price is up 10 3/4 cents at $11.50. This surge can be attributed to a private export sale of 136,000 MT of soybeans to China for the 2026/27 shipment, which brings the total sales announced for last week to 641,000 MT all to China.

On Friday, USDA Export Sales data showed old crop soybean sales at 41.79 MMT, or 101% of the USDA forecast, with new crop bean sales more than double the same period last year. NOPA data, to be released on Monday, is expected to show an estimated 221.5 million bushels of soybeans crushed during July.

China's Sinograin will auction off another 360,000 MT of imported beans on Wednesday, further boosting demand for soybeans.
