Ferrari's First Electric Vehicle Breaks Auction Record at $40 Million

Key takeaways

  • Ferrari Luce sells for a record-breaking $40 million
  • The sale exceeded pre-sale estimate by over 3,600%
  • Ferrari's first electric vehicle features four electric motors and has a claimed range of over 530 km

A bespoke Ferrari Luce, the luxury carmaker's first electric vehicle, has sold for a record-breaking $40 million (€34.5 million) at a charity auction held by RM Sotheby’s in the US. The sale surpassed the pre-sale estimate of more than $1.1 million (€950,000).

The Luce was unveiled by Ferrari in May, priced at €550,000. Despite initial backlash over its design, the car's performance specifications are impressive: four electric motors, a maximum output of 1,050 horsepower, and a claimed range of over 530 km.

Ferrari shares fell sharply after the unveiling but have since recovered. The company raised its full-year guidance last month, posted strong earnings, and reported that orders for the Luce were progressing as expected.

The car sold during Monterey Car Week in California was identified as 'Chassis 0', the first production chassis in the Luce program. It was specially customized to create a unique collector's model.

Previously, a bespoke Ferrari Daytona SP3 raised $26 million at auction in 2025, setting the previous record for the highest price paid for a new car at auction.
