Europe's First MiCA Enforcement Fine Issued to Crypto Platform Bitpanda

Key takeaways

  • First fine issued under MiCA enforcement actions in Europe
  • Violation occurred due to failure to submit white paper and marketing communication prior to publication

Austria's government has fined Bitpanda, a leading European crypto broker, approximately €75,000 (US$81,150) for violating the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations. This is the first such fine issued under MiCA enforcement actions in Europe. The violation occurred due to Bitpanda's failure to submit a cryptocurrency white paper at least 20 working days before publishing it, as well as circulating a marketing communication prior to publication, both of which are against MiCA rules.
